The Various Re-Foundations
The club’s history is marked by mergers and rebirths. The main milestones that led to today’s ACR Messina are:
-
Messina Football Club (1900–1924): The original club.
-
Associazione Calcio Messina (1928–1940): The first true “AC Messina,” which reached Serie B in the 1930s before disappearing during the war.
-
Associazioni Calcio Riunite Messina (1947–1993): The historic “ACR Messina,” born from the merger between AC Messina and US Giostra. This was the club’s first historic promotion to Serie A in 1963.
-
Football Club Messina Peloro (1997–2009): After ACR’s bankruptcy, this new entity led the club back to Serie A in the 2000s, achieving its best-ever finish of 7th place.
-
Associazione Calcio Rinascita Messina (2009–2017): Formed after the bankruptcy of FC Messina Peloro.
-
Associazioni Calcio Riunite Messina (2017–Present): The current club, which restarted from Serie D after the previous management was excluded from professional competitions.
